Beyond its delightful taste, the OG Turmeric Latte holds a wealth of nutritional benefits, serving as a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

A Closer Look at the Ingredients

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Turmeric is a bright yellow-orange spice that has been used for thousands of years as a flavouring and colouring agent in many cuisines. It's widely known for its active compound, curcumin, which possesses potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)

This spice comes from the inner bark of the Cinnamomum tree and is used for its distinct sweet and warm flavour. Cinnamon is packed with antioxidants, and studies show it may help reduce inflammation and lower blood sugar levels.

Vanilla Powder (Vanilla planifolia)

Derived from the vanilla bean, vanilla powder lends a sweet, creamy flavour that beautifully complements other spices. It also contains small amounts of B-vitamins and minerals, like magnesium and potassium.

Ginger Powder (Zingiber officinale)

Ginger, widely known for its distinctive hot and fragrant flavour, is filled with antioxidants and offers numerous health benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects and digestive health support.

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)

A pinch of black pepper enhances the flavours and boosts absorption of curcumin in turmeric, thanks to its active compound, piperine. This spice also contains antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties.

The Power of Fresh, Organic, Non-Irradiated Spices

The quality and freshness of the spices used in our OG Turmeric Latte significantly impact its flavour profile and health benefits. Organic, non-irradiated spices ensure the preservation of essential oils and active compounds, offering more robust flavours and potent health benefits. Irradiation, a process used to increase the shelf-life of spices, often diminishes their nutritional content and alters their taste. By avoiding irradiated spices, we maintain the integrity and vitality of our spices.

The Synergy of Turmeric and Black Pepper

The combination of turmeric and black pepper in our OG Turmeric Latte is not just for taste. Black pepper contains piperine, a compound that enhances the bioavailability of curcumin in turmeric by up to 2000%. This means that more curcumin can be absorbed and utilised by our bodies, offering improved anti-inflammatory benefits.

So, every time you sip on an OG Turmeric Latte at Jim's Cafe, you're not just indulging in a flavourful drink, you're also investing in your well-being. Fresh, organic, non-irradiated spices come together in a delicious blend to provide you with a drink that's as beneficial as it is enjoyable.

How to make Jim’s OG Turmeric Powder mix:

Using your eyes, nose and heart to be mindfully present with the spices, you can combine them in a bowl using these percentages (as a guide only). Once combined, store in an airtight container and add a label so you don’t mix it up with straight turmeric:

  • 80% organic turmeric powder

  • 10% organic cinnamon powder

  • 7% organic ginger powder

  • 2% finely ground black pepper

  • 1% organic dried vanilla pod powder (Slice pods in half and dehydrate on low until dry enough to grind into a powder)

How to make a Turmeric latte:

  • Add one level teaspoon of OG turmeric latte powder to a 12oz cup.

  • Add one cm of boiling water to the cup, and stir until combined.

  • Add any requested sweetener; honey is our favourite.

  • Steam milk and pour to the top, dust with cinnamon.
